A suspect is in custody after at least 20 people were injured in a shooting at a Florida high school.
The incident at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland is being described by police as a “mass casualty” event.
Florida Sen. Bill Nelson told ABC News that there are “multiple fatalities” at the scene, as students described the turmoil inside their school building.
Student Michael Katz said he saw at least three people dead, including two right outside his classroom. Law enforcement has not confirmed that statement.
Katz said the number of gunshots that rang out in the freshman building were “too many to count.”
SWAT officers with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office rushed into the school with guns drawn.
